Following Gov. Henry McMaster’s executive order that nullified an emergency ordinance requiring face masks to combat COVID-19 last month, Clemson City Council has asked staff to prepare another emergency ordinance based on local conditions rather than the governor’s state of emergency declaration.
Although Andy Blondeau was unanimously approved as the new Clemson city administrator earlier this month, Mayor Robert Halfacre and city attorney Mary McCormac have been in the process of negotiating a contract for his permanent position.
Pickens County School Board trustee Betty Bagley, who represents the Clemson area, said the district isn’t competing with the neighboring districts of Anderson and Oconee counties when it comes to preparing students for the future.
School District of Pickens County officials say a tax increase approved this month was the only viable option to ensure competitiveness with teacher and administrative salaries and school programs and initiatives.
