Don’t let disbelief shake your faith

I was shocked recently by a comment from a well-known scientist I’ve always respected, saying he didn’t believe there was any evidence for God. How could anyone study the universe and think it all came about by chance? I’m a research scientist myself, and I’ve never had any doubt about God’s existence.

Children deserve a stable environment

I have a year-old son whom I love more than anything in the world. My girlfriend, “Karen,” and I are trying to be good parents.
The problem is, Karen and I have broken up several times due to arguments that got out of control. She has a terrible temper. Usually, a month after our breakups, she pulls out all the stops to get me back.
Since our son’s birth, we’ve stuck together, but we still fight. Twice, Karen has threatened to take our son and leave. The fighting is wearing me down. I have considered proposing because I know it will make her happy. And she really is a great mother. But as soon as I consider finding a ring, we end up having another ridiculous fight.

Can you make Yorkshire pudding? No? I can’t either. My mom can. In fact, my mom can make Yorkshire pudding and police eight kids in the midst of making dinner for 20 or 30 people. Really, she can. My mom is amazing.

No perfection without Christ
November 3, 2011 – 1:00 am | No Comment

Do you think it’s possible to be perfect, if we just try hard enough? I’ve tried and tried to become a better person, and I know I’ve made some progress, but I get discouraged because I can’t seem to make it to a higher level. Am I doing something wrong?

The not-so-wicked stepmother
November 3, 2011 – 1:00 am | No Comment

I am a stepmom to two wonderful little boys under the age of 4. I treat them the same as my own children. The problem is their mother. “Carla” acts as if I am the wicked witch. I know it is hard to let another woman care for your children. I have assured her numerous times that I am not out to take her place. She is their mother and always will be.

Change can be a good thing

The trees are changing colors and that means fall is here. This month is a good time for us to look at the changes we have experienced this year. How has your family changed over the last year? One family I know is addressing the fact that the mother is an alcoholic. Another family is facing the effects of stage four breast cancer.

New technology is not always better
November 2, 2011 – 1:00 am | No Comment

In our culture, there appears to be a mantra that says essentially that virtually any new and exotic technological widget is bound to be good and better than its more mundane predecessor. In short, if it glitters technologically, it’s got to be gold. Recent research, however, suggests that this notion may be far from true.

Satan rejoices at our doubt
November 2, 2011 – 1:00 am | No Comment

The devil rejoices when we allow doubts to crowd out our faith, because his goal is to keep us from God and make us doubt His Word. The first question in the Bible came from Satan, who made Adam and Eve doubt what God had told them: “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden? … You will not surely die'” (Genesis 3:1,4).

Let Herman be gone | Test

Responding to his insurgent campaign’s first crisis, Herman Cain was upbeat and defiant. “To quote my chief of staff and all the people around this country, ‘Let Herman be Herman,’” he said Monday. “And Herman is gonna stay Herman.” I was afraid of that.
