The S.C. Legislature is 10 weeks into our 2022 session. I wanted to provide an update on key issues we have debated recently.
As a long-ago firefighter, Marine and career spook, I am awed by Ukrainian patriotism, bravery, guts, skills and endurance in the face of Putin’s (no honorific) unjustified, horrific destruction rained down on Ukraine and its people.
OK, Mr. Putin did pull the trigger on Ukraine. My WAG on Mr. Putin’s intentions and timing was too hopeful.
Books are truly magic. They allow us to get lost in fantastic worlds and make us laugh as well as cry. I love to read. I will read anything with writing on it. Book banning is the most widespread form of censorship in the United States. The American Library Association (ALA) has a list of books banned from libraries, schools and universities. I was shocked by many of the books on the list.
The bromance of China’s Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin on display at the Beijing Olympics signaled a growing political, economic and military cooperation and implies a joint threat capability vis-a-vis NATO and U.S. alliances in Asia.
“Voting rights” is one of the hottest topics in Washington and will likely continue to guide the political conversation through the rest of this Congress.
